Transgender Awareness Week - Famous People

Elliot Page

Elliot Page was born in in Halifax, Nova Scotia on February 21st 1987.  On December 1, 2020, Page came out as transgender on his social media accounts, specified his pronouns as he/him and they/them, and revealed his new name, Elliot. On November 9, 2017, it was announced that Page had been cast in the main role of Vanya Hargreeves in the Netflix series The Umbrella Academy. After Page came out as transgender, it was revealed that he would continue his role as Vanya in the show, with Netflix updating Page's name across the service

Isis King

Isis King who was born 1st October 1985 is an American model, actress and fashion designer. She is most widely known for her appearance on the eleventh and seventeenth cycle of Americas Next Top Model (ANTM). She became one of the first transgender woman to compete on the show and one of the most visible transgender people on television. King began hormone replacement therapy in the summer of 2007, as part of her transitioning process. She had gender confirming surgery in 2009, which she stated on America's Next Top Model: All-Stars.

Indya Moore

Indya Moore who uses they/them pronouns, at the age of 14, they left their parents' home due to their parents' transphobia, and entered into foster care. They moved around frequently during this time, eventually living in all five boroughs of New York City. After being frequently bullied, Moore dropped out of high school during their sophomore year. They began working as a model at the age of 15, and eventually earned their General Equivalency Diploma started modelling at the age of 15 after dropping out of High School. After being disenchanted by modelling they appeared in television shows, such as Pose (2017). 

Chaz Bono

Bono is the Son of Cher and Sonny Bono. He Transitioned from Female to Male in 2008, since then, he has become a writer, musician and actor. Chaz has also done many things for the LGBTQ+ community including many campaigns for different events in LGBTQ+ tragedies such as the Orlando Nightclub shooting. In mid-2008, Bono began undergoing a physical and social transition from female to male. This was confirmed in June 2009 by his publicist, who identified Bono's name as Chaz Bono and said, "It is Chaz's hope that his choice to transition will open the hearts and minds of the public regarding this issue, just as his coming out did." In June 2016, the Human Rights Campaign released a video in tribute to the victims of the Orlando nightclub shooting; in the video, Bono and others told the stories of the people killed there.

GottMik

Gottmik, or simply Mik, is the stage name of Kade Gottlieb, a drag performer and makeup artist based in Los Angeles, California and a contestant on Season 13 of RuPaul's Drag Race. He is known for his advanced skills in makeup artistry. Gottlieb uses she/her pronouns when portraying Gottmik, and he/him pronouns out of drag. He has done makeup for Cindy Crawford, Todrick Hall, Paris Hilton, Heidi Klum, Adam Lambert, French Montana, and Tinashe, as well as Drag Race contestants Alaska , Detox , Gia Gunn, Shangela, Violet Chachki, and Willam Belli. n 2021, he became the first trans man to compete on RuPaul's Drag Race, appearing on the thirteenth season. He performed well in the competition, winning two challenges (the ball and the Snatch Game, performing as Paris Hilton), and ultimately reaching the top four alongside Kandy Muse, Symone, and Rosé. He was eliminated during the finale episode in a lip sync for you life to the song "Gimme More" against the eventual winner, Symone, ultimately tying with Rosé as second/third runner up.
